Reward Management is concerned with the formulation and implementation of strategies and policies that aim to reward people fairly, equitably, and consistently by their value to the organization. Organizations need to have employee reward and recognition programs to boost morale and retain talent by rewarding contributions that help achieve organizational goals.
Towards the end of the Ramayana, Rama’s army won the battle—a victory that would not have been possible without the strenuous efforts and unwavering dedication of the monkey army. After the war, Indra, the lord of the celestials, asked Rama to request a boon.

Rama asked Indra to bring back to life all the monkeys who had lost their lives in the battle:
“I wish to see all those monkeys who, for my sake, were separated from their sons and wives, be delighted at heart. I wish to see them free from wounds and pain, with strength and valor. Wherever these monkeys live, let there be rivers with crystal-clear water, flowers, roots, and fruits even in the off-season. Let them be full of joy and reunited with their relatives, kinsmen, and families.”
Instead of asking for something for himself, Rama gave due recognition to his team. Indra, delighted, granted the boon, surprising all the monkeys. Rama thus rewarded them with the most valuable and priceless gift — life itself.
This story is a timeless lesson for organizations: recognize and retain employees who bring great value through dedication, hard work, and determination, leading to the fulfillment of the organization’s vision.
