The fourth function of management, leading (or direction), focuses on guiding, motivating, and inspiring people to work towards a shared objective.
A vision remains just a dream unless it is brought to life through collective effort, direction, and inspiration. A leader plays a crucial role in aligning the team towards this shared purpose.
In the Ramayana, while Nala is credited as the chief engineer who provided the technical expertise to build the great Rama Setu, it was Nila (Neela) who served as the commander-in-chief of the monkey army under King Sugriva. The commander-in-chief holds the highest operational authority, ensuring that strategies are executed efficiently on the ground.

Nila took charge of organizing the monkeys, mobilizing them, and ensuring they were ready for the mission. Under the guidance of Sugriva and with directives from Nala, the army marched forward with a clear objective. Known as one of the four monkeys strong enough to cross the ocean, Nila’s leadership was instrumental in transforming Rama’s vision into a reality.
Any mission, whether in life or business, thrives when there is a leader who not only directs but also inspires the team to move together towards the common goal.
