Some of my friends and myself share the services of the same maid in our apartment. I found her to be regular and committed, that's the best part of engaging a home maid. I have been receiving complaints about our maid from my friends about her carelessness, forgetfulness, her inability to sort things in order, the way she keeps the utensils etc. very common with servants.

Only during public holidays I meet her, she does all job at my home in my absence most of the days. When ever I am at home, I began to observe her way of doing things and I too felt that she is careless and forget things, does not fold clothes properly, always in a hurry, do not know how to keep things in proper places, too much usage of dish wash etc.
But one thing I noted was that she does a task in a consistent manner which means she is not careless, but lack knowledge about several things. She's concentrating only on completing the task at hand, finish the work fast and rush to the next apartment. Can't blame her, if she knew to do all these things she wouldn't have come for a home maid job. So I decided to give her instructions whenever I come across things which she is not doing properly.
There's a way to handle sensitive maids, some times she doesn't even bother to talk but I do. My friends also started giving her instructions. She started doing things in a better way or at least as per the instructions. She learnt better way of doing a task and new ways from everywhere. When a new information is applied in a similar situation only it becomes learning. She's not careless these days, because she started applying whatever she learnt from one house in another. That's the best part of it.
She didn't know that speaking to us maintain relationships. She started to learn how to do smart work and save time. When we educated people look at the ones who are just matriculates or even lesser at what they are doing wrong and simply leave it by commenting to others, nothing is going to change. If we expect change, communicate. Simply giving instructions mean a lot to them because the fact is that they do not know. If we give them proper feedback and guidance they will perform.
That's what we have to do, every one of us are trainers and we should try to develop others by giving instructions and the way we do it matters a lot. Anyway we are happy that our maid began to perform well in her job and that makes our work easier. Quality is a result of training. Rather than discussing it among peers, do what is necessary, that's nothing but right direction at right time. Everything lies in communication.
